FSCJ Baseball Defeats Daytona State in 11 Innings
The FSCJ Manta Rays secured an exciting 11-10 walk-off victory over Daytona State College in a thrilling, back-and-forth game at Howard Roey Field. Tied at 10 in the bottom of the 11th inning, Billy Girgis hit into a fielder's choice, allowing the winning run to score. Both teams displayed exceptional offense, each recording 12 hits in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Daytona struck first in the opening inning, with Wilson driving in a run to take the lead. FSCJ quickly responded when Isaac Newman delivered an RBI double after a grueling nine-pitch at-bat to tie the game. Daytona regained control in the third inning with RBI singles from Corbitt and Bradshaw, building a 3-1 lead. FSCJ answered with a four-run rally in the bottom half, fueled by a sacrifice fly from Nolan Hartsell and a three-run single from Brooks Hicken to take a 5-3 advantage.
Daytona surged back in the fourth, reclaiming the lead at 6-5 thanks to a sacrifice fly from Vinciguerra and a two-RBI single by Corbitt. However, the Manta Rays mounted a decisive five-run rally in the sixth inning. Alex Monile drew a bases-loaded walk, and RBI hits from Isaac Newman and Jack Newman added to the tally, with Jack driving in two critical runs to swing the momentum back to FSCJ. Despite Daytona's persistent efforts to close the gap, FSCJ's pitching held firm in the late innings.
Harper Osburn earned the win for FSCJ, delivering two perfect innings of relief with no hits, walks, or runs allowed. Ethan Carroll also contributed three strong innings, giving up just one hit and striking out two. For Daytona, Lyons took the loss despite keeping FSCJ hitless in his brief outing. Baldwin, Daytona's starter, allowed five runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings.
Isaac Newman led FSCJ offensively, going 3-for-6 with multiple RBIs. Hartsell and Hicken drove in two runs each, while Girgis and Jack Newman showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks each. FSCJ excelled on the basepaths, stealing four bases and turning two double plays. Daytona's Corbitt had a standout performance, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Guy added three hits, and Bradshaw drew two walks.
Despite Daytona's resilience and discipline at the plate, FSCJ's timely hitting, smart baserunning, and solid pitching proved decisive. The walk-off finish capped an intense game, showcasing the determination and talent of both teams.
Next up for the Manta Rays is a double header on the road at South Georgia State College.
