
Baseball Ends Skid with 4-1 Win over Edward Waters JV
The FSCJ Manta Rays secured a 4–1 victory over Edward Waters JV on Wednesday at J.P. Small Memorial Stadium. Edward Waters JV took the lead in the fourth inning when Durand hit a solo home run to left field. However, FSCJ rallied in the top of the eighth, taking a 2–1 lead after Douglas Langley singled down the left field line and Brooks Hicken followed with a sacrifice fly, each play scoring one run. In the ninth, Isaac Newman extended the lead by launching a two-run homer to right field, sealing the win for the Manta Rays.
On the mound, Braden Hansen earned the win for FSCJ, pitching two and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four without issuing a walk. Austin Musgrove started for FSCJ, giving up one run on three hits over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Ethan Carroll came in for one inning of relief, striking out three and walking one without allowing a hit. For Edward Waters JV, Sowers took the loss, going seven and one-third innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out six, and walking four.
Offensively, Newman led FSCJ with two RBIs, going 2-for-5 at the plate. Alex Monile had a standout performance, going a perfect 3-for-3 to lead the team in hits. The Manta Rays demonstrated discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Monile and Billy Girgis each collecting two. On the base paths, Monile and Deven Gonzalez each stole multiple bases, contributing to FSCJ's total of eight stolen bases for the game. Defensively, the team played a clean game without committing any errors.
