FSCJ Cross Country Ready for the First Run of the Manta Rays
The FSCJ men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2024 season at Valdosta State University's "Border Clash" held at Freedom Park on Friday, September 6. The men's 7.25k will start at 6:20 p.m. followed by the women's 5k at 7:00 p.m. with awards to follow. Fans attending the meet will find Freedom Park located at 3795 Guest Road, Valdosta, GA 31605.
Fourteen college teams from North Florida and South Georgia will compete over the challenging 7.25k and 5k courses. Other than what is typical in a regular team-based race, the Border Clash is a state-based competition comparing the top five times of the schools from Georgia versus those of the other bordering states to see which state wins the event - and takes home bragging rights.
"We've got a strong group of returning athletes and we've added what could be our strongest group of freshmen ever. Can't wait to start racing!" commented Head Coach Jody Hale.
The FSCJ women's cross country team has three sophomores returning from last year's team which finished 24th at the NJCAA National Championships last year. They enter the Fall led by team captain Zahir Miller.
The men's team returns four from their squad that finished 19th at the national race in Huntsville, Alabama last Fall and will be led by team captain Gershom Allen.
