Hale Leads Manta Rays to the Win at Penney Farms
The FSCJ men's and women's cross country teams competed in the JC Penney Memorial Scenic Highway Historic 5K for the first time last Saturday and came away with the overall race winner.
Benjamin Hale won the race with a personal best time of 17:08. Team captain Gershom Allen finished in second just two seconds behind at 17:10. Camden Budd (3rd overall), Cole Fleming (1st in the 14-19 age group), Noah Looney, Aiden Taggart, and Kaydan Bowie rounded out the top 7.
In the women's race, team captain Zahir Miller finished in third place and led the Manta Rays with a season's personal best time of 22:48. Ellie Cardozo, Ava Banks, Ashtyn Parsons, Faith Harrold, Lauren Hughes and Tytiyonna Nesmith (second place in the 20-24 age group) all clocked fast times. Hughes continued to show improvement each week as she clocked her fourth personal record in the last four races.
"Hurricane Helene cancelled both scheduled meets these past two weeks so we were lucky enough to find this race nearby," said head coach Jody Hale. "We had several runners run personal records and season's best times, and it was great to see excellent performances from all the Manta Rays today."
