
FSCJ Women’s Basketball Shines in 401 Classic, Achieves Best Start in a Decade
The FSCJ women's basketball team put on an impressive display this weekend at the 401 Classic Tournament, taking down both host Wake Tech Community College and Louisburg College. With a 4-1 record that has showcased the program's depth and determination, FSCJ has achieved its best season start in ten years.
FSCJ at Wake Tech Community College
The Manta Rays opened their tournament play on Saturday with a strong performance against Wake Tech, leading from the first quarter and maintaining momentum throughout. Tanaujeah Brown had a standout game, scoring 29 points and adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists to fuel FSCJ's offense. Her high energy and playmaking ability set the tone early as FSCJ posted 26 points in the first quarter to Wake Tech's 13.
Supporting Brown's stellar performance was Kassadi King, who pulled down an impressive 14 rebounds and added 8 points, dominating the glass and providing a solid inside presence. Nyeemah Dixon and Bryanna Simmonds added balanced scoring to the Manta Rays' offense as each contributed 10 points at key moments. FSCJ won the game with a final score of 77-61, outscoring Wake Tech in three out of four quarters.
FSCJ at Louisburg College
FSCJ carried their momentum into Sunday's matchup against Louisburg College, where they continued their high level of play. Tanaujeah Brown once again led the team with 24 points and 8 rebounds, and in a show of the team's ability to share the scoring load four Manta Ray players scored in double figures.
Ameera Nayani posted a career-high 18 points, showcasing her offensive potential and contributing to FSCJ's strong start. Janay Demmitt added 16 points, while Misty Badmus secured a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, impacting both ends of the court.
FSCJ established a commanding lead early, holding Louisburg to just 2 points in the first quarter and 9 in the second. Despite Louisburg's attempt to rally in the fourth quarter, FSCJ held on to win comfortably 81-59.
With a 4-1 record, the FSCJ women's basketball team has achieved their best start in a decade, fueled by a mix of seasoned players and emerging talents. Head coach Jessica Eaton expressed her excitement for the team's early-season success. "This group has come together so well, and the results are a testament to their hard work. We have something special here, and I'm incredibly proud of them," Eaton remarked.
