FSCJ Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 at the Palm Beach State January Classic

The FSCJ women's basketball team had a stellar showing at the Palm Beach State January Classic, finishing the weekend undefeated and tying the program's mark for most wins in a season in over a decade. 

Day 1: FSCJ vs. Montgomery College

On Friday, the Manta Rays dominated Montgomery College with an impressive 79-49 victory, shooting 50% from the floor. The team was led by Tanaujeah Brown, who delivered a standout performance with 24 points and six assists. Janay Demmitt and Teresa Pierre each contributed 10 points, with Pierre also grabbing six rebounds. Travonda Jackson showcased her all-around game, tallying eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in a solid two-way performance. 

Day 2: FSCJ vs. Bay College 

The Manta Rays kept the momentum going on Saturday in a nail-biting 57-55 victory over Bay College. Janay Demmitt sealed the game with a clutch layup in the final moments, leading all scorers with 17 points. Tanaujeah Brown once again had a dominat presence on the court en route to recording a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

With these two victories, the Manta Rays demonstrated their resilience and determination, earning well-deserved praise from their head coach, Jessica Eaton. 

"This team is special," Coach Eaton said. "They work hard, they don't back down from a challenge. Even in our toughest losses, they have not given up. That is truly all I can ask for as a coach." 

The Manta Rays' performance at the Palm Beach State January Classic not only highlights the team's talent but also sets a strong foundation for the rest of the season. Fans can expect this team to continue pushing boundaries and making history. Next up for FSCJ Women's Basketball is a home game vs Trinity Baptist College on Tuesday, January 7th at 6 p.m.
