
Manta Rays Start Fast, Finish Strong in South Carolina
In their sixth straight away match to open the 2024 campaign, FSCJ Volleyball started strong while quickly going up 7-1. The Indians would narrow the lead 9-7 before a service error put the Manta Rays back in control. FSCJ pulled ahead 17-10 and then 24-14 with the Indians fighting off five set points before dropping the first set 25-19.
Both teams came out in second set ready to compete for each point, and after 20 of them the score was split 10-10. The next 20 points went the same way and they were even at 20-20. The Manta Rays fought off two set points before earning one themselves 25-24. The Indians strung together three straight points for the first time all set when it mattered most to take it 27-25.
Third sets had not been kind to the Manta Rays, dropping all five opportunities in the early innings of their season. But after losing that close back-and-forth battle, the Manta Rays entered set three with a renewed sense of determination. They jumped out to a commanding 10-2 lead and would not look back, pushing the lead to 12 at 22-10 while racking up 10 kills commiting only a single error in the process. FSCJ then went on a three-point run of their own to take set three 25-10.
The Indians were once again slow to find their rhythm and got doubled up 12-6 to start the fourth. They would eventually close the gap to four 20-16 before the Manta Rays closed it out with big kill by Ella Jonášová to take the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
